In 2010, a small series of clinical trials found that CBD significantly reduced anxiety symptoms–namely social anxiety, amongst individuals whose brain waves were monitored during social scenarios.

CBD is federally legal. On August 26, 2019 the DEA released an official memo clarifying their stance. They wrote:
“Accordingly, hemp, including hemp plants and cannabidiol (CBD) preparations at or below the 0.3 percent delta-9 THC threshold, is not a controlled substance, and a DEA registration is not required to grow or research it.”
It is still illegal to manufacture food products containing CBD as well as make specific claims about CBD treating conditions until the FDA releases their own regulations on products under their jurisdiction.

It’s mostly a matter of preference as all orally ingested CBD remains active in the body for the same amount of time.
